is a magical story of a transforming summer spent with a family that cared and shared. the worldliness of one boy and the innocence of the world outside of the farm of the other b. the plot line of the story is me went to an aunts and uncles. the two of them eventually becomes close friends as the summer is coming to an end with days mixed of tough work and rough play. by the time he was 11 years of age, paulsen was relocated several times. our 11 year old "city boy" narrator is sent to live with his second cousins on their farm for the summer. it isn't in the surprise of his actions, but in the fact that despite a reader being able to foresee the consequences of harris's actions long before he does, the reader is always so entirely captured in the ride that harris takes along the way and particularly his reactions after the fact. i really felt emotionally connected to harris (he's the guy you love to hate at the beginning, then grow fond of by the end), and the narrator has a real voice to. because it is in first person, the reader can see what the narrator is thinking, and i think middle school students can relate to the protagonist especially because middle school students often feel pressured into things and they do them even though they don’t agree because they don’t want to be judged. the story follows the narrator and harris’ adventures during the summer and they face danger on multiple occasions. it integrates e/la with social studies, math, technology, and physical education. and me is a really fun, light, relatable read, and i imagine that it would be the same for my future middle grades students. it offers a perspective that many students are not used to and the ones that are can relate to the book, which can draw them in.

and me was one of the fun books that you like to red. i really felt emotionally connected to harris (he's the guy you love to hate at the beginning, then grow fond of by the end), and the n. by the time he was 11 years of age, paulsen was relocated several times. i found myself laughing at what i knew was coming long before it ever happened only to find myself laughing that much harder by the time it actually came to pass. for most of the book, our narrator simply follows harris' lead. this boy has never lived on a farm although and cou. and his wife, ruth wright paulsen, an artist who has illustrated several of his books, divide their time between a home in new mexico and a boat in the pacific. this story is very climactic and paulsen does an excellent job writing detailed descriptions of all of the narrator and harris’ adventures. the worldliness of one boy and the innocence of the world outside of the farm of the other boy are a perfect combination in this feel good story. larson: typical young farm kid, he's rough and tough, wild cousin, his swearing and curiuosity often get him in a lot of trouble. it was a care-free kind of book, one full of cherished moments and insights into life through the eyes of a young boy. while learning how to live the country life he gets a kick in the head by vivian the cow while trying to milk her, a commotion with an angry rooster and the larson families pet lynx. they organize this information on a concept map and then write a geopoem about alaska.

    this story is full of adventure, crazy ideas, and hilarious situations that a reader of any age would love. the me character is a smart, outgoing, city boy and doesn't know much about the farm boy life.“harris and me” ended up being a very pleasant read for me. if he says 'testicles' one more freaking time i'm going to shoot someone! as students listen, they will visualize and sketch images that come to mind; then students will label their sketches with key descriptive words either from the text or their own words. this novel reminded me of a simpler time when boys could run and play outside all day and look forward to a trip to town. our young boy comes from an unstable home life and if forced to spend the summer with his aunt and uncle out on their farm. parents were alcoholics and often he was shuffled from one home to another. this boy has never lived on a farm although and could barely keep a job for long. i'd recommend this to any literate person who doesn't risk bodily injury from the laughter it will unavoidably induce. i do, however, see that pitching this book to students is key in getting them to want to pick it up and read it. the plot line of the story is me went to an aunts and uncles house met harris started messing around like "me" is part of the family. of the book, opening discussion and writing activities, crosscurricular suggestions, and research assignments.

    you never get the main characters name, but the reader still has no problems relating to the character telling the story. as a future middle grades language arts and reading teacher i will definantly use this book as a novel study. lots of laughs and a little bit of tears at the end. he knows that pretty much everything harris wants to do is going to end in disaster but he goes along with it anyway. one summer he is sent to spend the entire summer with his prankster extraordinaire second cousin harris larson, at the larson homestead. in my opinion, it would draw students in because of the humor and imagination. it's hard to get kids, or anyone really, to read something. and me mixed review - print all section questions at once (options for multiple keys). does he really expect me to laugh at someone hurting there balls or saying the word 'piss'? this book is one of my favorites and definitely wins the cake. a detail i found funny funny is that harris read the comic tarzan and then he tried to swing from a rope like him but ended up running in to a barn wall. i chose to read this by and in the pool and almost dropped it in the pool i laughed so hard. running away from home at the age of 14 and traveling with a carnival, paulsen acquired a taste for adve.
